What are you playing right now? You like music don't ya?
The purpose of this thread is to expand the musical horizons of the people that frequent this board. I feel that sometimes, we get locked in our own little music box and have a hard time getting out. There is so much out there to listen to and you have to at least give it all a shot.

Point well taken Jay.... Wel, at the beginning of the summer, I was really starting to focus on jazz(of course Coltrane, Parker, T Monk, etc) and I've bene reading more than anything, about techniques of artists such as Coltrane (ie-sheets of sound), and watching documentaries about Charlie Parker and Thelonius Monk. There's so much more to musicians than just the music they play. Or rather, I should say that there's alot more that goes into their paying than technique. But anyway, I've also been feelin' real Black, watchin' the BET Awards (the best awards show ever). I'm diggin' 50 Cent, Monica's hot right now with "So Gone", Mya has a song out called "My Love Is Like...Woah" (very sexy). I've been listening to more rap and R&B than I have in a long time. So it'll be interesting to get back into the "classical" swing of things back at UNCP. However, I haev been practicing, as I hope you all are (or else your instructors will be extremely disappointed lol). Okay, I'm done rambling...HOLLA!

From June til Mid August (prolly Labor Day weekend now that i'm marching senior corps this summer) I turn off my radio and hide my CD's and listen to NOTHING but drumcorps.
Personal faves: 2000 Cavaliers 2000 Santa Clara Vanguard 1994 Blue Devils 2000 Cadets 2000 Boston Crusaders (yes 2000 was the best year in DCI history) 1996 Phantom Regiment 1999 Madison Scouts 1991-2-3 Star of Indiana (best corps EVER) 1998 Glassmen
Ahhhhhhh....nothing like hearing the beautiful overtones of a perfectly tuned 64 man brassline!

Cadets 2000 We Are the Future barnone! as far as Metallica goes....I heard the single and got scared so I didn't buy the CD. So i'm still waiting to hear the whole thing. I've heard it's better than Load and Reload, but I think their better days are behind them.

I was going to try and be cute and funny, but all I can really say is it is just bad. Bad like hot diet mt. dew. Bad like going to the bathroom and finding a floater. Bad like my grades. Just bad. Its so bad, I won't even download it to piss Lars off. And I love to piss Lars off.

i have also been listening to alot of jazz, i found this new website for all us intrumentalist that has a great method for overtones and all the modes written out. right now i am listening to john coltranes misty and before that maynard ferugosons playing with the north texas one o'clock band. cant wait to get back to school and play with the ensembles. and this summer i been listening to alot of old r&b such as the isley brothers and the late barry white. if you ever listen to the background it fits into a late jazz style that is awesome. i have always love the slow and romantic music, cause eveybody knows i am such a big teddy bear

oh yea, one more thing, if you ever have time or just want to, download some native american chants or wooden flute songs. i have also found some chants that have a jazz background. i feel we should listen to as much music as possible, you may not like it, but at least you will be knowledgable about it, and be learning different things that we cant learn in college.

seeing as i have to ride with my dad to work everyday, i have to listen to country. so i take a book to read. though i will say that a lot of songs are good patriotic or love songs. but i haven't really had much time to expand my listening pleasures (or the finacial or harddrive support either) Ahhhhhhh....nothing like hearing the beautiful overtones of a perfectly tuned 64 man brassline! did anybody else notice that tommy not only posted that gay picture, but also said "'Ahhhhhhh', beautiful, perfect(ly), 64 man, and (br)ass(line) in the same sentence?
